Original copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. A fine and rare map of the Roman Empire by the famous French cartographer Melchior Tavernier published at Pierre Marriette, rue St. Iacques a'Esperance in Paris. The fine engraved map is depicting the Roman Empire with the neighbouring Eastern European countries and the North African coastline. Beautifil decorated with seamonsters and antique sailing ships in the Atlantic Ocean. The decorative title cartouche embedded on a historical old sailing ship with figurative allegoric decorations.
