Article description
Original antique copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash, very likely old colored. Engraved by Jodocus Hondius. A beautiful example of the fine engraved old map of the County of Leinster by John Speed. The upper left corner with a large renaissance title cartouche, the lower left corner with impressive mileage scale and date 1610, below the imprint naming John Sudbury and George Humble. The impressive map in a strong impression with clear engraved waves in the sea. The compass rose delicate hand colored, below a sea-monster and a sailing ship. Above an inset map with a city plan of Dublin with a large table of explantions (1-69) listing streets, markets, houses, churches, gates and more. The map was published either in the 2nd edition of John Speed's atlas in 1616 or in the 1623 edition. A fine copy. Overall in very good to excellent preserved. A very small old mending verso above the lower centre fold. Recently viewed products
