Article description
Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour on paper. The watercolor depicts the Pyramids of Giza at sunset, in the foreground the river nile is shown with beduins on cameles and two inhabitants, which are fetching water in clay vessels. This watercolor is a typical work of Perlberg, who prospered by dedicating his career to topographical views, which were highly prized by a travel-loving clientele. In this beautiful detailed view, the picturesque architectural view is enhanced by the choice to depict the hour when the sun sets behind the pyramids, when people enjoy and seek the rest after a long day. The fine watercolor by the famous orientalist Friedrich Perlberg (1848-1921) probably was painted around 1896. Friedrich Perlberg undertook a trip to Egypt in 1896, and two years later a trip to the Holy Land in the entourage of Kaiser Wilhelm II. He published a book on both trips in 1897 and 1900 respectively. This fine watercolor is offered by us framed in in a fine decorative antique frame as it was in possession by the previous owners. The artwork was examined by us and is in very good to excellent condition. There are only two small spots to notice within the image. At the bottom titled,Pyramiden von Gizeh bei Sonenuntergang' and signed 'F. Perlberg München' in the lower right corner. Friedrich Perlberg was the son of the painter Georg Christian Perlberg (1806–1884). He studied from 1868 to 1875 architecture and landscape painting at the school of applied arts in Nürnberg and Paris. His main place of work was in Munich, however also in Italy, Spain and and especially in the Orient. In 1896 he undertook a travel to Egypt, Nubia and the Sudan. In 1898 he was part of the journey of Kaiser Wilhelm II in the Holy Land. Recently viewed products
