Article description
Steel Engraving, original color in outline by Stülpnagel, Johann Friedrich, published 1828 by Perthes, J, Gotha. Image size: 28.9 x 35,3 cm (11.5 x 14 inches). Johann Friedrich von Stülpnagel (1786–1865) was a German cartographer and military officer who worked for the Justus Perthes geographical publishing house in Gotha. He produced finely engraved maps of Central America and Mexico that appeared in German atlases of the late 1820s, at a time of great European interest in the newly independent republics of Latin America. His map of Mexico and Central America (1828) represents the state of geographical knowledge at the dawn of the post-colonial era. Steel-engraved map, colored in outline, as published. In the under left corner a small inset map with the surroundings of the city of Mexico. A highly detailled map providing a lot of information on small villages and place names, rivers, lakes, mountains, etc. In very good condition. Slightly browned with brown spots.Stülpnagel, Johann Friedrich – Mexico und Centro-America · Antique Map, Steel Engraving · 28.9 x 35,3 cm · Perthes, J., Gotha 1828
