Article description
The composer of this book was a lawer as well a member of the Johanniter-orderfrom Utrecht. He made extensive travels through Europe and to the Middle East. 60 engravings in text, of which 2 are frontspieces, 9 are fullpage, 2 small are inserted between the leaves and 1 large folded leaf. Title, 12 (of 16 ?) unnum. leaves, 518 pp., 9 leaves. Contem. leather-binding. Inserted the large, folded leaf 'Synopsis Reipublicae Ventae', which mostly is missing in comparable copies, also the errata-leaf is present. From those 8 additional leaves 'Ad lectorem Perigrinantem paraaenesis' after the title 4 are missing as frequently. Illustrated with fine engravings, of which the full-page illustrations show islands in the Mediteranean (Cyprus, Crete, Corfu, Rhodos); the others with views of Jaffa, Jerusalem, Tripoli, Venice, etc.
