Article description
Original screenprint, hand signed and numbered 50/100. A striking composition in intense scarlet-red and deep cobalt-blue. A striking composition in intense scarlet-red and deep cobalt-blue. A large spherical form rises from the lower centre in four narrow parallel stems, merging upward into a densely sprayed mass that dissolves at its edges into the red ground through thousands of fine dispersed particles. The effect is simultaneously explosive and gravitational — the form suggesting a rising fireball, a luminous cloud, or a tree of light arrested in mid-ascent. The spray-dot technique throughout is characteristic of Piene's Rasterbilder method and his sustained engagement with fire, light, and sky as primary artistic forces. As co-founder of the ZERO group (Düsseldorf, 1957), Piene sought a new visual language stripped of gestural expression — pure colour, light, and sensation in its place. large spherical form rises from the lower centre in four narrow parallel stems, merging upward into a densely sprayed mass that dissolves at its edges into the red ground through thousands of fine dispersed particles. A fine, vivid impression with colours of full intensity.
