Article description
Original copper engraving, uncolored when published. Engraving from Frederick de Wit: "Theatrum Praecipuarum Totius Europae", using a copper plate from Jan Jansson's town book. The engraving is shown the view of Vienna from the south west. View over the Danube to the old town of Vienna with its fortress walls. The Reichsbrücke with riders and several people is engraved in the left area. In the middle is the Cathedral of St. Stephen. To the right is the mighty town hall of the city. In the foreground figurative staffage with working peasants. At the top is a cartouche with the german name of the city,Wien'. At the bottom of the map with detailled text descriptions in Dutch, French, German and English.
