Original Copperplate Engraving by Allain Manesson Mallet, depicting Der Fränckische Kreyss - Cercle de Franconie. Published Frankfurt, Jean David Zunner, 1686. Sheet: 150 by 112mm (6 by 4 inches).. A fine and example of Mallet's celebrated cartographic work, documenting this region of Germany with the precision and decorative artistry characteristic of the 16800s. Alain Manesson Mallet (1630-1706) was a French military engineer and cartographer who published Description de l'Univers (5 volumes, 1683), an illustrated encyclopaedia of world geography. The work contained hundreds of small but finely engraved maps and city views, making it one of the most widely read geographic works of the late 17th century. His maps, though small in format, are prized for their charm and historical interest. This original copperplate engraving depicts the region of Der Fränckische Kreyss - Cercle de Franconie, published in Frankfurt, Jean David Zunner, 1686. The map records the political and geographic boundaries of the region as understood in 1686, offering a fascinating window into the history of German territorial organization. Sheet measures 150 by 112mm (6 by 4 inches).. In good condition overall, with minor signs of age appropriate for a 17th-century engraving.
