Robert de Vaugondy (1688-1766) and his son Didier Robert de Vaugondy (1723-1786) were leading French cartographers of the 18th century. Geographers Royal to Louis XV of France, they produced the influential Atlas Universel (1757), a comprehensive atlas of world geography that became a standard reference work of the Enlightenment era. Their maps are characterized by clear scientific engraving and elegant French style.
