Hand-Colored Original Copperplate Engraving by Gabriel Bodenehr, depicting Ingolstatt mit der Gegend. Published Augsburg, 1736. Sheet: 170 by 280mm (6 by 11 inches).. A fine and original hand-colored example of Bodenehr's celebrated cartographic work, documenting this region of Germany with the precision and decorative artistry characteristic of the 17300s. Gabriel Bodenehr (1664-1758) was a German engraver and cartographic publisher from Augsburg, the scion of a long dynasty of Augsburg engravers. He is best known for his Atlas Curieux (1704) and Europens Pracht und Macht (c.1720), which contained city views and maps of territories across Europe. In 1717 he acquired the copper plates of Johann Stridbeck and expanded his publishing programme considerably. His engravings are characterized by a charming Baroque style and careful attention to geographic detail, making them popular with both collectors of antique maps and lovers of historical German topography. This original copperplate engraving, with original hand coloring depicts the region of Ingolstatt mit der Gegend, published in Augsburg, 1736. The map records the political and geographic boundaries of the region as understood in 1736, offering a fascinating window into the history of German territorial organization. Sheet measures 170 by 280mm (6 by 11 inches).. In good condition overall, with minor signs of age appropriate for a 18th-century engraving.
