A fine and original hand-colored example of Schenk's celebrated cartographic work, documenting this region of Germany with the precision and decorative artistry characteristic of the 17000s. Petrus Schenk (1660-1718/19) and Gerard Valck (1651/52-1726) were Amsterdam-based Dutch cartographers and publishers who formed one of the most productive partnerships in early 18th-century cartography. Working from Amsterdam, they published finely engraved maps of European territories, often based on earlier works by de Wit, Visscher, and other Dutch masters. Their maps are noted for elegant cartouches, fine hand coloring, and high engraving quality, representing a continuation of the great Dutch tradition of cartographic excellence.
