Article description
Original screenprint, probably printed and published in the 1970s by the Pospieszczyk and Wells screenprinting shop in Regensburg, signed lower right. Printed on wide-margin handmade paper (49 x 53 cm). View over the Stone Bridge to St. Peter's Cathedral and the old town of Regensburg. Between 1920 and 1927, Otto Baumann completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter and studied at the School of Applied Arts in Cologne under Robert Seuffert. From 1927 to 1934 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Ludwig von Herterich and Karl Caspar. A further training period took him to Paris at the Académie Colarossi between 1927 and 1930. From 1929 onwards, various trips to France, Italy, Spain, England, Yugoslavia and Greece followed. So he moved again from 1930 to 1931 to France, to Normandy and to Paris with his friend, the painter Fritz Harnest. Otto Baumann lived as a freelance artist in Oberndorf near Regensburg from 1934 to 1959. After 1959 he experienced further intensive creative years and received many awards one after the other. In 1961 he received the East Bavaria Culture Prize, in 1966 the Culture Promotion Prize of the city of Regensburg, in 1972 the city's Albertus Magnus Medal and in 1984 the Culture Prize of the Bavarian Forest Association. He died in July 1992 in Regensburg.
