Article description
Original antique copper engraving, hand coloured when published, depicting Frankreich,. Published by Mollo, Wien, 1824. Sheet: 327 by 447mm (12 by 17 inches).. A fine decorative example of antique cartography by Tranquillo Mollo, rich in period detail and historical significance. Tranquillo Mollo (1767–1837) was a Vienna-based Swiss-Italian engraver and publisher who operated one of the most important print-publishing firms in the Habsburg capital during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He published maps, musical scores, and art prints, and his geographical publications captured the cartographic knowledge of the Napoleonic and Restoration era in central Europe. The antique map show France, the southern part of England, the bordering Netherlands, Switzerland and Spain. Also an inset map of the island of Corsica in the lower left picture. The title and the list of the individual departments is on the top right. In good condition for its age (published 1824). Colours well preserved. Some age-toning and minor imperfections consistent with a document of this antiquity. A condition report is available on request.Tranquillo Mollo – Frankreich, Wien bey Tranquillo Mollo · Original Antique Copper Engraving, Hand Coloured · Mollo · Wien 1824
