Original antique copper engraving, hand coloured when published, depicting Strassbourg. Published by Pierer, Leipzig, 1844. Sheet: 120 by 180mm (4¾ by 7 inches).. A fine decorative example of antique cartography by R. Gross, rich in period detail and historical significance. Gross, R. was a cartographer active during the period indicated by this map. Their works document the geographical knowledge and cartographic craft of their era. Fine and decorative small plan of Strasbourg, engraved with many details and equipped with an extensive table of explanations. In good condition consistent with age (published 1844). Colours well preserved. Some light age-toning to the sheet, as expected for an antique engraving of this period. No tears or significant foxing. A condition report is available on request.
