Original antique copper engraving, hand coloured when published, depicting Paris. Published by Deutsche Verlagsgesellschaft, Hamburg, 1912-17. Sheet: 392 by 530mm (15½ by 20¾ inches).. A fine decorative example of antique cartography by [Pharus Verlag], rich in period detail and historical significance. The Pharus-Verlag was a Berlin-based publisher specialising in detailed city plans that combined cartographic precision with commercial and tourist information. Their Paris plan represents a fine example of early twentieth-century urban cartography designed for practical use by visitors to the French capital. Detailed lithograph plan of the city of Paris. Published in Hamburg in the so-called famous,Pharus Atlas' of German cities and some European capitals. The plan provides a detailed overview of the centre of the city of Paris with its main buildings, churches, parks, places and streets. The decorative and fine lithographed plan of Paris is depicting the city of Paris, also transportation routes through the city are shown in red lines on the map. Further the most important buildings are shown on this plan (tour Eifel, the Louvre, churches, etc.). In the upper left corner with title cartouche and the explanations for the city map. In good condition consistent with age (published 1912-17). Colours well preserved. Some light age-toning to the sheet, as expected for an antique engraving of this period. No tears or significant foxing.
