Original antique copper engraving, hand coloured when published, depicting France in Departments. Published by Philip & Son, Liverpool, 1860. Sheet: 50.1 x 59,6 cm (19.75 x 23,5 inches).. A fine decorative example of antique cartography by George Philip & Son, rich in period detail and historical significance. George Philip & Son was one of the leading British geographical publishers of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, based in London. They produced educational maps, atlases, and globes of consistently high quality, catering to schools, libraries, and the general public. Their maps of France reflect the high standards of late nineteenth-century British cartographic publishing. Decorative double page hand colored lithograph antique map, showing detailed France. Hand colored decorative in outline and wash when published, piano key border. In good condition consistent with age (published 1860). Colours well preserved. Some light age-toning to the sheet, as expected for an antique engraving of this period. No tears or significant foxing.
