An attractive and historically significant 18th-century map for the discerning collector. Cornelis Mortier (1699–1783) and Jean Covens (1697–1774) were Amsterdam publishers who continued the cartographic legacy of Pierre Mortier. Their firm republished and updated many of the finest 17th-century French and Dutch maps, making them available to collectors throughout Europe in updated editions. The Covens & Mortier atlas incorporated plates originally engraved for Nicolas Sanson and Alexis-Hubert Jaillot, preserving the grand tradition of large-format French cartography. Their maps are notable for fine engraving, attractive hand coloring, and large format.
