Cornelis Mortier (1699–1783) and Jean Covens (1697–1774) were Amsterdam publishers who continued the cartographic legacy of Pierre Mortier. Their firm republished and updated many of the finest 17th-century French and Dutch maps, making them available to collectors throughout Europe in updated editions. The Covens & Mortier atlas incorporated plates originally engraved for Nicolas Sanson and Alexis-Hubert Jaillot, preserving the grand tradition of large-format French cartography.
