Original antique copper engraving, uncolored, published 1625. Depicting Tyrol & Trentino, this map is a fine example of 0s European cartography. Image: 100 by 148mm (4 by 5 inches). An attractive and historically significant 17th-century map for the discerning collector. Daniel Meisner (1585–1625) was a Bohemian-German author and publisher, best known for his emblem book 'Sciographia Cosmica' (1637–1638), published posthumously in Nuremberg. The work contains small but charming copper engravings of European towns and fortifications, each accompanied by an emblem and a moral aphorism, combining cartographic depiction with the popular emblematic tradition of the 17th century. Meisner's views are among the smallest and most collectible town images from the early 17th century. This copper engraving, uncolored map of Tyrol & Trentino, published 1625, exemplifies the cartographic tradition of 1620s Europe.
