An attractive and historically significant 19th-century map for the discerning collector. Philippe Benoist (1813–1905) was a French painter, lithographer, and illustrator celebrated for his detailed topographic views of European cities. His series of lithographic views of Trieste, published around 1860, captures the city at a pivotal moment in its development as the principal port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Benoist's vedute are noted for their accuracy and atmospheric quality, and they represent some of the most important visual documentation of 19th-century Italian cities. Original antique lithograph.
