A fine Viennese engraved map of the United States — an unusual Continental perspective on the early American republic. Tranquillo Mollo (1767–1837) was an Austrian publisher and music engraver based in Vienna, best known as one of Beethoven's most important early publishers. He also produced geographical atlases and maps, including his Vereinigte Staaten in Nord America — an elegant engraved map of the United States produced in Vienna in the early 19th century. Mollo's maps reflect the Viennese publishing tradition's combination of fine engraving craftsmanship with commercial reach across the German-speaking world, offering a Continental European perspective on the young American republic. Detailed map of the United States divided into its 18 provinces and equipped with many engraved names of cities, villages and smaller places. In the lower left corner a small mileage scale. The various states are detailed shown in old outline color. Streets, rivers, mountains and many small cities and cities are engraved. The Western part of the map shows Louisiana with the neighboring New Mexico. An interesting map by the famous Austrian cartographer and publisher Tranquillo Mollo. A good example, overall minor toned, some spots slightly visible.
