Article description
Lithograph by Holmes, William Henry, published 1880 by Julius Bien & Co, New York. Image size: 480 by 765mm (19 by 30 inches). William Henry Holmes (1846–1933) was an American artist, geologist, and archaeologist — one of the most multi-talented scientific illustrators of the 19th-century American West. He joined the U.S. Geological Survey under John Wesley Powell and produced some of the most remarkable geological panoramas and landscape illustrations ever made, combining artistic beauty with scientific precision. His lithographic views — published by Julius Bien & Co. in New York — depicting the panoramic geology of the Grand Canyon region and the Arizona plateau are among the finest examples of scientific illustration in American history, sought by collectors of both Western Americana and the history of science. Decorative panoramic view of the Grand Canyon seen from Mt. Trumbull and Mt. Emma. In very good condition. The lithograph was at a earlier date folded in a portfolio, so the old folds are slightly visable.Holmes, William Henry – Views from Mt. Trumbull and Mt.
