Original Chromolithograph in printed colors. Verso:,No 29 Ed. Hildebrandt Runde Straße in Peking, Nach der Aquarelle aus der Sammlung des Herren Richard Goehde. Chromofacsimiliert von Steinbock. Verlag von R. Wagner, Berlin, Zimmerstraße 92/93' Chromolithograph from a watercolor of the famous German landscape painter Eduard Hildebrandt (1817-1868) from the series "Die Reise um die Erde" [‚Journey round the world']. Hildebrandt enjoyed traveling and his travels took him to the remotest parts of the world. Already in 1840 he made a trip to Scandinavia, England and Scotland. After Alexander von Humboldt commented him the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. supported Hildebrandt. In 1844, he traveled at the expense of the king to North and South America. He was almost two years traveling and produced over two hundred watercolors and oil sketches. Other travels took him again to England and Scotland, then to the Canaries, Portugal and Spain. In 1851 he traveled again to Italy, Egypt, Palestine, Turkey and Greece. 1862-64 followed a journey round the world. On his numerous trips he made drawings and watercolors. In 1862 a selection of Hildebrandt's watercolors appeared as chromolithography under the title "Die Reise um die Erde" [‚Journey round the world'] and was published by R. Wagner in Berlin.
