Article description
Original antique copper engraving, hand coloured when published, depicting Isle de Rè. Published by le Rouge, Paris, ca. 1800. Sheet: 165 by 248mm (6½ by 9¾ inches).. A fine decorative example of antique cartography by G.L Le Rouge, rich in period detail and historical significance. Georges-Louis Le Rouge (1712–1790) was a French military engineer and cartographer who served as Géographe du Roi under Louis XV. He published an extensive range of maps, plans, and atlases in Paris, including large-format topographical maps of France and detailed harbour plans. Le Rouge's maps are noted for their precision, fine engraving, and importance as primary sources for French military and maritime history of the eighteenth century. This original antique copper engraving depicts Isle de Rè with characteristic nineteenth century cartographic detail — showing towns, rivers, mountain ranges, and administrative boundaries engraved with the precision and artistry of the period. Published by le Rouge in Paris, ca. 1800. Dimensions: 165 by 248mm (6½ by 9¾ inches).. In good condition for its age (published ca. 1800). Colours well preserved. Some age-toning and minor imperfections consistent with a document of this antiquity. A condition report is available on request.G.L Le Rouge – L'Isle de Ré · Original Antique Copper Engraving, Hand Coloured · le Rouge · Paris ca. 1800
