Article description
Copper-engraving published 1575 in a Latin edition of the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" by A. Ortelius. With engraved title-cartouche in the upper margin. This is the first map by Abraham Ortelius showing the duchy of Wurtemberg, published from 1570 onwards up to 1581. This map was replaced then later by the doublepage map "Wirtenberg Ducatus ... " after G. Gadner from 1579 onwards. Rare, early map of the duchy of Wurtemberg only published between 1570-81. Engraved by Franz Hogenberg. The maps shows the duchy of Wurtemberg, in the Southeast with Ulm, Stuttgart in the centre and in the North with the neighbouring Heigelberg.
