Article description
Original antique copper engraving in contemporary hand coloring. Old colored copper engraved map "Totius Alsatiae Novissima Tabula", engraved by Gilliam van der Gouwen based on a template by Philip Tideman, published by Nicolaes Visscher (around 1677). The large-format, very decorative map shows Alsace, Sundgau and Breisgau, Ortenau and the margraviate of Baden and Durlach with the course of the Rhine from Eglisau to Philippsburg and neighboring areas. The map is bounded by Blamont in the west, Annweiler in the north, Bruchsal / Durlach in the east, Laufenburg / Rheinfelden / Basel in the south of the map. At the bottom right is the large, figurative title cartouche. The crowned coats of arms of Lower and Upper Alsace are held by 3 putti. Below is the mileage indicator "Milliaria Germanica Communia, Milliaria Gallica sive Horae Itineris" and legend.
