Hamm was an American cartographer who contributed maps to the Philadelphia firm of Carey & Lea, one of the leading American geographical publishers of the early 19th century. His map of the Italian States was published in their pocket atlas, combining compact format with detailed topographic information. Carey & Lea atlases are among the most collectible American cartographic productions of the early 19th century.
