Article description
Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. A highly decorative 'carte de figure' of the kingdom of Spain and the neighboring Portugal. The map is equipped at the top with a border of city views of Spain: Pons Segovia, Madrid, Sevilla, Lisboa, Valladolid and Turris Herculis (the columns of Hercules). The left and right side panels are with eight pairs of rural costumes of the various regions in Spain engraved. The bottom panel is again with famous locations and Spanish city views decorated: S. Adriani, Granada, Toledo, Escorial, Barcelona, Burgos, Algibe. In between these views and costumes we do find 17 finely colored engraved coat of arms of the various Spanish regions. Old colored example of this highly decorative rare map of Spain. Overall minor mild browned, the colors still fresh and vivid. Verso an old skillfully restored tear.
