Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash. Highly decorative prospect of the city of Regensburg on the Danube in Bavaria. The double page copper engraving is in the upper part equipped with a panoramic city view of Regensburg (Ratispona). This view is originally published first in reduced size in Matthaeus Merian s Topographia Bavaria of 1644. The plate was originally a combination work by two famous topographical engravers of that period. The panoramic view was engraved first by Wenzel Hollar and the plan of Regensburg (Ratisbona) originally first engraved in bird s eye view by Matthaeus Merian. This enlarged plate here published in J. Jansson s town books is ornated the eagle of the Holy Roman Empire and an coat of arm of Ratispona. Decorative plan with engraved houses, streets, markets, towers, churches, the bridge and Stadtamhof across the Danube.
