Original antique steel engraving, hand coloured in outline, showing Marseille. Published by Baldwin & Cradock, 1st Dec., London, 1840. Sheet: 315 by 395mm (12½ by 15½ inches).. A fine decorative example of antique cartography by S. D. U. K, rich in period detail and historical significance. S. D. U. K. was a cartographer active during the period indicated by this map. Their works document the geographical knowledge and cartographic craft of their era. This plan of Marseilles is highly accurate and finely hand colored throughout. With many details of parks, places, buildings, streets, etc. In good condition consistent with age (published 1840). Colours well preserved. Some light age-toning to the sheet, as expected for an antique engraving of this period. No tears or significant foxing. A condition report is available on request.
