Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. Decorative bird's eye view and plan of Naples in Southern Italy. The highly detailed plan of Naples with engraved streets, buildings, parks, monuments, churches and the bay of Naples with the harbour. At the top and bottom with seven decorative engraved views of important palaces and castles of the city of Naples including a scene of the erupting mount Vesuvius. Matthäus Seutter, born 1678 in Augsburg, learned at the printing house at Johann Baptist Homann in Nürnberg. He published his engravings in various atlas-editions from 1720 onwards, which were extended with maps and city views in the years after.
